Ready for Takeoff

DSC_1090(Maya) On our last day in Pokhara, Nepal we decided to do something that you have never heard of in your life. A micro light flight is an open-air mini plane that can seat two people, a pilot and me. A hang glider served as the wings of this dinky plane. These micro planes took off from the airport runway and these women with too much make-up on helped us get suited up with an extra heavy jacket and snow pants.

The pilot drove onto the runway and took off and soon enough we were in the air. It was like a flying golf cart and sounded like a boat propeller. The wings were bright colors of the rainbow. It wasn’t cold because of the heavy articles of clothing they gave us. I was seated next to the pilot for the thirty-minute ride. Zara and Jolie were also in the air flying along side me.

We were very lucky because we had a crystal clear day so you could see the alluring, snowy Annapurna mountain range, home to two of the highest peaks in the world. We weren’t that close to the mountains but we didn’t need to go close to see how astonishing they were.

We flew over a city, over a lake and temples and through some clouds. My pilot didn’t speak English just “are you okay” which he asked every two minutes. Then sadly we had to make a landing as we weaved through little mountains almost hit a couple houses and landed on the runway. That was a breathtaking experience that I will never forget.

    Hi Maya,

I am so glad that Icarus and a few others worked out the kinks of flying before you got into your micro light plane! You’ve had a number of interesting flying experiences: hot air balloons, helicopters and this. What could be next? If anyone tries to interest you in wax wings, please say no!! Love, Grandma

You are brave!! So far being 11 seems pretty cool and courageous. Not sure which experience is Garrett’s favorite – this or the Panda. Thanks for sharing – amazing!

WOW! I am amazed by your bravery. Can you stay grounded for a few days? I’m getting grey hair worrying about you girls floating through mountains and over towns!! Loved the video and the music – your mom will have to create a round the world mix after your trip. She doesn’t have very many other things to do. Ha! Miss you all. Liza comes home from California tonight – she’s been busy kissing llamas. Love to all. xxo
